» Sariska Tiger Reserve

Sariska is situated 200km from Delhi and 107 km from Jaipur, surrounded by barren Aravali Hills in the Rajasthan. National Park was once a part of the princely state of Alwar and was the favourite hunting gorund of late Maharaja Jai Singh. After independence the park was declared as sanctuary in 1955 and finally with the total area of 800 sq. kms it becomes Tiger Reserve under project Tiger in the year 1979. Like Ranthambore National park, Sariska contains a fort and ruined temples, the Neelkanth temple dedicated of Lord Shiva dates back to 6th -13th century.

Though the forest is small but it has always been a great place for Tiger country. Seeing a tiger mainly depends on the luck as they mainly show up after it is dark. At the time of declaration of tiger reserve, Sariska has 19 tigers (in year 1979 ), which rose up to 24 in the year 1997. Sariska has an abundance of wildlife its includes Panther, Jungle Cat, Jackals, Hyena, Crocodile, Wild Boar, Porcupine, Nilgai, Sambar, Chital and Hare. Sanctuary also has a rich bird life too, which include Quail, White Breasted Kingfisher, Pea Fowl, Great Indian Horned Owl, Crested Serpent Eagle, Sand Grouse and many other species of birds.
