» Simplipal National Park

The national park is situated at the North Eastern part of Orissa, which is 250 kms. from Calcutta and 320 kms. from Bhubaneshwar. The landscape is thickly wooded slopes and ridges with beautiful varied hills. This place is one of the last wilderness in Eastern India. Earlier it was exclusively preserved as private hunting ground of Maharaja of Mayurbhunj. In 1973, Simplipal was declared as Tiger Reserve Forest.


As compared to others, Simplipal National park has proved excellent for Tiger growth as there were only 17 tiger here in the year 1972, which has increased to 98 in year the year 1997. Simplipal National Park has beautiful scenery of grassy valleys, beautiful waterfalls and 12 rivers running through it with rich variety of flora and fauna. There are around 231 species of birds reported in the park. This National Park also boasts Leopard, Gaur, Elephant, Langur, Barking Deer, Spotted Deer, Sloth Bear, Mongoose, Flying Squirrel, Porcupine, Turtle, Monitor Lizard, Python, Sambar, Mouse Deer, Pangolin and Crocodile.
