» Sunderbans Tiger Reserve

Sunderbans means beautiful forest. This place is the part of world's largest delta The Wildlife Travelsformed by river Ganges,.Brahmaputra and Meghna. Almost half of the delta is in India (8371 sq. kms. ) and rest is in Bangladesh. UNESCO has chosen the delta as world heritage site. It is a estuarian mangrove forest of which 2585 sq. kms. is Wildlife Reserve under Project Tiger of which 1330 sq. kms. are strictly preserved as core area. The park holds more tiger population then any other Tiger Reserve. This Reserve has 263 Tigers (1997). Project Tiger also helped to efficiently conserve the forest from wood cutters and they also launched a programe to conserve the RIDLEY SEA TURTLES. Sunderbans are the only mangrove forest in the world. The forest here is highly dense due to which tiger is rarely sighted over here. Apart from Tigers, Sunderban also contains rich and rare wild fauna such as Fishing Cats, Wild Boar, Spotted Dear, Rhesus Macaque, Dolphins, Crocodile, Ridley Sea Turtle, Monitors and large variety of birds.
